B'ar trouvé
It is OK to skip the reading and go straight to the remaining pictures
but not recommended!
B'ar Trouvé Bohemian Paris Jazz Bar & Gallery
Walkthrough surreal artwork experience set in the early twentieth century Paris reflecting the culture and art around that period. Constructed of objets trouvés and other sculptures, many of which can be seen earlier in this website.
At and around the bar are sculptures with a nod to Giacometti, Brâncusi and Rodin.
They are narcissistic drinking from bottles & glasses that resemble themselves.
Inspired by Edward Kienholz's Beanery [Stadelijk Museum Amsterdam].
Kienholz was invited and serves at the bar!
He is constructed from compressed copper piping and his head is a clock set at 10.10.
Surreal dance floor.
Hedonistic hints with cocaine and genuine Absinthe illustrating their destructive nature.
The Jazz Band - sculptural heads floating & supported by their musical instruments.
'Cornelia Parker' plays trumpet.

On two levels
Firstly, a superficial walk-through bar experience but also a surreal representation of its Bohemian culture, all of the positive and negative elements of that time in Paris.
Ambient sound recorded in the Warwick Castle, Little Venice.
Sidney Bechet's Si tu Vois Ma Mère performed by a band with me playing clarinet.
First exhibited at The Heatherley School of Fine Art 2022. Then at my Open Studio for Shenfest 2023, the annual cultural festival in Shenington - the village where I have my Studio@The Ox Barn Studio in Oxfordshire on the edge of the Costwolds.
It will next re-establish B'ar Trouvé for exhibiting at Tate Modern in 2027 - if only!
It was described, by an eminent sculptor/external examiner from the Slade, as.....
“Extraordinary installation, celebratory, hedonistic, overwhelming, irreverent. His thought, drive, energy & enthusiasm are remarkable”
The installation works best when you walk through it live but the following pictures give you a reasonable feel.
The aim of the installation was to be surreal, chaotic, overwhelming and, of course, irreverent.
